Moon Fool is an umbrella host name for a network of international artists working through multi disciplinary exchange. Work has been produced principally at Trestle Arts Base, St. Albans in the UK, with support from Kingston University and Benno Plassmann’s The Working Party to date. Moon Fool generates high quality theatre, music, arts education and community projects which masterfully nurture personal experiences of freedom and inspire social change for audiences from diverse backgrounds.
Founded by Director, Actor and Musician, Anna-Helena McLean in 2008, Moon Fool hosted its first show, Ill met by moonlight with co-production support from Trestle. This production toured the UK to critical acclaim in January 2010. It is a physically dynamic and musically orchestrated mid-scale devised work for diverse audiences by exploring themes of love and transformation. It brings together the performance styles of pioneering physical theatre and circus companies from eastern and western Europe (Gardzienice & Song of the Goat from Poland and NoFit State Circus from UK) in collaboration with Christopher Sivertsen (Norway) and Peter Swaffer-Reynolds (UK), and targets a young as well as adult international audience, drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s well-loved story A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Moon Fool hosted a month’s tour in India October 2010 using Anna-Helena’s Actor - Chorus - Text (ACT) training as a means to exchange and research material for a new production based on Romeo & Juliet directed by Anna-Helena and co-created with core ACT trained team; Emily Jane Grant (UK) and Anirudh Nair (India). Currently a fresh team of UK based ACT trained actors are working together to develop an adaptation of Richard III with Aegis Productions and performed together with Athena Stevens (USA), an astonishing actress with cerebral palsy.
Anna-Helena is currently ON TOUR in Chicago and New York. See ‘What’s on’ for more details.
